Texas judge shuts down Obama's latest overtime initiative

A federal judge in Texas blocked President Obama's rule to extend overtime pay that would make millions of workers eligible for additional pay. The rule, issued by Labor Department, would have doubled the maximum salary a worker can earn while still receiving mandatory overtime pay. The new rule, originally planned to go into effect on Dec. 1, would have made an estimated 4.2 million people newly eligible for overtime. The judge overlooking the case Amos L. Mazzant III, was formally nominated by Obama in 2014.
