Hillary Clinton lost the electoral vote, but she is dominating the popular one, reports USA Today.
On Wednesday, her lead grew, putting her more than 2 million votes ahead of Donald Trump. Specifically, Clinton’s popular vote count was 64,227,373, while Trump’s lagged behind at 62,212,752, according to the Cook Political Report.
This is not the first conflict between the electoral and popular votes.
Among the larger discrepancies was the one that occurred in the 2000 election. That year, Democratic candidate Al Gore surpassed George W. Bush by roughly half a million votes, notes New York Magazine.
Such instances have prompted some to question if following the electoral system is the best way to determine the presidential winner.
