Nigerian fishermen sue Shell for polluted water in UK

Nigerian fishermen have filed a lawsuit against Royal Dutch Shell PLC alleging that decades of oil spills have polluted the water of the Niger River Delta. They argue Shell is responsible for the foul water in the river, where the oil company's subsidiary has operated since the 1950s. The hearings are scheduled to start on Tuesday in London’s High Court. Shell says the spills were caused by third-party interference, such as sabotage and theft, according to the Wall Street Journal. According to Nigerian law, the company doesn't need to pay for damage if caused by sabotage or theft.
