Letter Unearthed By Historian Shows Donald Trump's Grandfather Pleaded To Stay In Germany

The German media outlet Bild has reportedly written about the discovery of a 1905 letter which indicates that President-elect Trump’s grandfather Friedrich unsuccessfully asked to be allowed to stay in Germany.

President-elect Donald Trump’s grandfather Friedrich was reportedly exiled from his native Germany in the early 1900s.

The story was originally published by German media outlet Bild and centers around the discovery of a document asking he be allowed to stay.

As Roland Paul, the historian who found the letter, reportedly explained to Bild, “Friedrich Trump emigrated from Germany to the USA in 1885. However, he failed to de-register from his homeland and had not carried out his military service, which is why the authorities rejected his attempt at repatriation.”

Trump is believed to have returned and attempted a reestablishment of citizenship after making money in the west because his wife, who was from the area, was homesick.

According to The Guardian, his 1905 letter to a prince even attempts to get in the royal’s good graces by describing him as “much-loved, noble, wise and righteous sovereign and sublime ruler.”

However, the request was ultimately denied, and the family ended up departing for New York.
