Cyprus dams-great for exploration, birdwatching and angling

Cyprus doesnot have real lakes, (except for the very important for the bird populations salt lakes and few remaining swamps). On the other hand, it has about 20 (bigger) dams, which even though have been constructed for irrigation purposes, also offer setting that can be explored. There are hiking possibilities around a few and fishing possibilities in most (also bird watching). Sadly, 2008 is a very bad year as far as water quantities on the island are concerned, and many of the dams are drying up. Nevertheless, better management of the water resources on the island can convert many of the dams into tourist attractions for angling, birdwatching, and ecotourism (eg. kayaking) for the benefit of nature, local communities and visitors.
