New Treatment for Severe Asthma

Two trials show a new injectable drug can reduce outbursts in patients with severe asthma that is not controlled by steroid inhalers alone. The new drug, benralizumab, works by targeting white blood cells called eosinophils, that are usually present in large numbers, in patients that have been linked to severe asthma. According to researchers, if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves of the new drug, it would offer new options to control asthma.
