China Denies Trump Claim That It Invented Climate Change Hoax

At a UN climate summit in Morocco, China’s Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin asserted that Donald Trump’s pre-election accusation that China created a climate change hoax is incorrect because even U.S. republicans acknowledged it was happening as early as the 1980s.

China has defended itself against claims made by Donald Trump that the country invented a hoax that climate change is happening, reports CNN.
In November 2012, Trump tweeted, “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”
The Vice Foreign Minister of China, Liu Zhenmin, recalled and countered that accusation on Wednesday while in Morocco for a UN climate summit.
Bloomberg quotes him as telling reporters, “If you look at the history of climate change negotiations, actually it was initiated by the IPCC with the support of the Republicans during the Reagan and senior Bush administration during the late 1980s.”
The IPCC is the International Panel for Climate Change which is overseen by the UN.
A CNN report states, “Liu reiterated that climate change was not a hoax and that it was possible for Republicans to continue to support the process of addressing it.”
Trump has openly denied that global warming is real and, as such, has said he will not honor the United States’ commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change, notes The Guardian.
