Aides in Donald Trump’s transition team announced on Wednesday that they are working towards fulfilling the President-elect’s campaign promise to “drain the swamp,” reports Fox News.
Sean Spicer, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, said of incoming White House appointees, “Not only will people…not be able to [be] registered state or federal lobbyists, but when they leave government, they will be banned from being a registered lobbyist for five years."
He further commented, “It goes back to Trump’s goal to make sure people aren’t using government to enrich themselves.”
Under Obama, the restriction against taking jobs as lobbyists is 2 years, notes the Washington Post.
Critics of Trump’s plan to more than double the period express concerns that it will present difficulties in filling certain government posts.
