WSJ: Obama Intends To Give Trump Extra Help As He Prepares To Be President

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that President Obama plans to give Donald Trump extra help in the onboarding process since his successor has no previous political experience and because his team is somewhat behind in executing the transition.

President Obama reportedly intends to provide additional counsel to his successor, Donald Trump.
A recently published Wall Street Journal article states, “After meeting with Mr. Trump, the only person to be elected president without having held a government or military position, Mr. Obama realized the Republican needs more guidance. He plans to spend more time with his successor than presidents typically do, people familiar with the matter said.”
The piece explains that “during their private White House meeting on Thursday, Mr. Obama walked his successor through the duties of running the country, and Mr. Trump seemed surprised by the scope, said people familiar with the meeting.”
In addition to his lack of political experience, the Journal attributes Trump’s delayed onboarding to changes in his transition team and his hesitance to move forward before securing a victory.
As such, the Journal notes that “Mr. Trump’s transition is slightly behind the pace set by previous incoming presidents and the timetable established by his own team.”
While the New York Magazine points out that Trump has accused the sitting president of not being born in the U.S. and contributing to the rise of the Islamic extremist group ISIS, Vanity Fair indicates that Obama should be motivated to help the new administration in order to help save some of his signature policies.
