Hi! This is Liyana Silver with Ask An Expert answering your love and relationship questions. Today’s question is: Dear Liyanna, why do men cheat?
I love this question and I actually have a very surprising answer for you. When I first heard it kind of knocked me off my chair. We think it has to do with sex right? That men trade up for a thinner, or hotter, or blonder babe. And sex is important it’s just not on the top of the list. The number one reason why men cheat is for lack of emotional appreciation. And that can show up for acknowledging him for all the hard work he’s done, or something he’s contributed. It could be going out your way to do something meaningful for him or being responsive and demonstrative in bed. Now I did my own research on this just recently.
I interviewed about 30 men for a course that I call the man whispering 28 day challenge. It’s for women but I wanted to make sure I got it right with the guys. And I asked them, “What makes you feel like a stud, like a man, like a rock star?” And their answers were of a very similar tune. Acknowledgement appreciation. It’s like this very important kind of man food and when he doesn’t get it a man will withdraw, shut down and start to leave. Or find someone he will feel appreciated with.
