An elk in Oregon felled by a hunter was, despite being dead, able to strike back.
That moment came on Saturday as Gary Heeter was riding through the wilderness on his ATV with the animal in tow.
While heading up a hill, the four-wheeler overturned, sending Heeter flying.
When he landed, it was on the elk, and he ended up taking an antler to the back.
Other members of the hunting party rushed to Heeter’s aid, trying to slow the bleeding as they waited for rescue workers to arrive.
Though it took some time for emergency personnel to find a place to land their helicopter, they were able to get the wounded man to a hospital.
Heeter is recovering and said to be in fair condition, notes KATU.
