Jury orders Rolling Stone and reporter to pay $3M in defamation case

A jury has awarded $3 million to a University of Virginia administrator, who won a defamation case against Rolling Stone over a discredited article about a supposed gang rape at the university two years ago. The administrator, Nicole Eramo, was awarded damages after a jury found Wenner Media, Rolling Stone's parent company, and reporter Sabrina Rubin Erdely liable in the case. The jury decided Erdely must pay $2 million and Rolling Stone $1 million. In the suit originally filed in May 2015, Eramo had asked for $7.5 million in damages.
