An American Airlines plane caught fire at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, forcing passengers to evacuate on the runway.
American Airlines Flight 383 departed Chicago for Miami on Friday afternoon when it blew a tire and damaged an engine, according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro.
The pilot aborted takeoff around 2:35 pm and everyone evacuated, Molinaro said. There were no injuries.
Television reports showed a large plume of black smoke coming from the Boeing 767, which appeared to be damaged at the rear.
Evacuation chutes could be seen coming out of the sides of the plane. The 161 passengers and 9 crew members got off the aircraft, WGNTV reported.
