Guatemalan faithful honor Saint Simon in pagan ritual

People pray at the Temple of Saint Simon in the municipality of San Andres Iztapa in Chimaltenango, some 40 km west of Guatemala City, during a pagan festival to honor the saint. Thousands of faithful bring cigarettes and other offerings to the saint --not recognized by the Catholic Church-- who is believed to be the protector of the homeless, prostitutes, alcoholics and drug-traffickers.
