In this sneak peek of a three part series we are currently editing, OTPYM founder, Michaela visits her home away from home, Africa, where her three-month solo journey that gave birth to OhThePeopleYouMeet all began.
One of her favorite African countries, one where all citizens have had the right to vote for only the past 22 years, is the same country where the artistic and culinary scenes are exploding with creative fusions of international influence with authentic injections of African culture. South Africa is leading the way for the rest of the continent through innovative tech, entrepreneurism, social good and one of Africa's most precious resources, it's wildlife.
Step behind the kitchen line with the chef of Cape Town's top concept restaurant and his ever-changing tapas menu. Chat conservation in Kruger Park ponder the challenging questions like, "Travelers come to Africa for the Big 5. But what if there was no Big 5?" Visit a lesser known vineyard of talented local wine makers but walk away inspired by an unorthodox business partnership between two change makers who represent the modern South Africa: Miss South Africa 1992 who refused to carry her country's flag during the Miss Universe competition in protest of Apartheid and a nuclear physicist and former exiled ANC guerrilla.

Three years ago, Michaela Guzy founded OhThePeopleYouMeet a content site for travelers, foodies and philanthropists with a passion for a genuine connection with the locals people she meets. Today OTPYM has over 50 contributors across the globe and 62,000 fans on Facebook. In June of 2012, she started Michaela’s Map, an original web video series she writes, produces and hosts, which is currently distributed on sites like YahooTravel, Everett Potter, The Daily Meal and of course OTPYM channels and directs and produces commercial video work for the industry.
Michaela is the Director of the Board of Advisors for Travel+Social Good and serves as the Corporate Vice Chair for The New York Center for Children. In addition to speaking at various International Luxury Travel Market conferences and Adventure Travel Trade Association Summits, Michaela curates content for T+SG during Social Media Week and NY Travfest. In a past life, Michaela, served as the VP/Global Travel and Strategic Development at American Express Publishing overseeing sales and marketing for blue-chip travel accounts for Travel+Leisure, Food&Wine, Departures, Executive Travel, Black Ink and Time Inc. brands.
