One man was killed and 12 people were injured in a fire that overtook three Upper East Side apartment buildings and sent flames shooting 20 feet into the air on Thursday morning, officials said.
The FDNY says the six-alarm fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. at an apartment building located at 324 East 93rd Street in Yorkville.
At one point during the blaze, a firefighter repelled off the roof to rescue an 81-year-old man trapped on the third floor, officials said. "
[They] grabbed the victim from the window as fire and everything was pushing out behind them and then lowered him to the ground to safety," said FDNY spokesman Jim Long.
