Nail art is a creative way to paint, decorate, enhance, and embellish the nails. It is a type of artwork that can be done on finger nails and toenails, usually after manicures or pedicures. A manicure and a pedicure are beauty treatments that trim, shape, and polish the nail. Nail art is a broad term encompassing a number of methods of nail decoration. An application of nail polish is enhanced by adding dots, stripes or flowers in different shades of nail polish with the help of a fine brush or a pointed applicator. Nail stamps allow the application of a particular pattern to nails: a stamp is coated in nail polish and pressed onto each nail for a uniform look. An easy way to decorate nails is with stickers and transfers; these are available in small sizes for use with nail polish and in large sizes for covering the whole nail. Appliques are popular nail-art decorations and include rhinestones, flat pearls, tiny chains and small flowers. Often these procedures remove the cuticles and soften the skin around the nails.
The best colors for nail designs depend on skin tone, wardrobe, current season, special events or just choosing colors that complement one another.For designs that are more striking, consider contrasting colors such as black and white. For a softer look, use pastel nail colors.
To create cool nail art, prepare the nail by applying petroleum jelly to the cuticles and using a white coat as the base polish. Select a design, then use accessories for the polish job. Finish with nail decals or jewelry and a top coat.
#Step 1. Start with a clean base
Use a cotton swab to apply petroleum jelly on the skin around the nail bed. This makes cleaning up polish on the skin easier. Be careful not to get the jelly on the nail bed, though, as this prevents the polish from adhering.
#Step 2. Apply a white base coat
Use a white nail polish as your base coat. This allows the true color of the nail polish to shine.
#Step 3. Select a design
Design options for cool nail art include half moons and colored tips. Nail decals and jewelry are also options.
#Step 4. Create half moons
Polish your nail with a single coat, and allow it to dry. Place a paper hole reinforcement sticker at the base of the nail so it creates a half-moon shape. Apply two coats of polish in a complementary color to the first. Remove the sticker carefully to avoid smudging the polish.
#Step 5. Make nails two-toned
Use two-toned tips as an alternative or in addition to the half moon. After the first color has dried, cut tape into narrow strips. Put the strips crisscrossed over the tip of each nail, and apply two coats of polish.
#Step 6. Add decals or nail jewelry
When the polish is just tacky, apply a decal in the center of certain nails. Rhinestones can also be added. Use the tip of an eyeliner pencil to pick up the rhinestone and place it on the nail. Apply top coat to seal the nail art in place.
Another design requires two nail colors and a nail art brush or bobby pin. First, the base color is painted onto the nail. Next, using the brush or bobby pin, an L shaped line is drawn from the bottom third of the nail around to the end of the nail in the second nail color. The second color is painted into the smaller side of the nail design.
