Airbnb is now banned from listing short-term rentals in New York

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law today a bill to make it illegal to advertise entire unoccupied apartments for less than 30 days on Airbnb. Those who violate this new law, which the state assembly and senate voted on in June, will be subject to fines of up to $7,500. The legislation, which was sent to Mr. Cuomo on Tuesday, spells trouble for Airbnb. New York City is the company’s largest market in the United States.
