Social Security Benefits will rise 0.3 percent in 2017, the government announced Tuesday morning. The Labor Department reports U.S. inflation rose 0.3 percent in the third quarter of 2016, compared to the third quarter of 2014, the last time benefits were adjusted. This cost-of-living adjustment adds $5 to the average monthly payment for all retired workers.
