Donald Trump is known to lash out at detractors, but some observers have pointed out that there appears to be one he avoids criticizing.
A recent Politico report states, “In his latest, and perhaps most vehement, campaign tirade, Donald Trump held his fire when it came to first lady Michelle Obama.”
The GOP candidate has even remained silent after she gave an impassioned speech against him at an event for Hillary Clinton on Thursday.
The first lady stated, “A candidate for president of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women.”
She is also quoted as saying that “strong men don't need to put down women to make themselves feel powerful.”
While Mrs. Obama avoided calling Trump by name, it was clear that she was referring to offensive comments he made about women in a 2005 tape.
According to ABC News, her message was hard for his campaign to attack because “she made the case personal, speaking as a mom and a woman with ‘strong men’ in her life, in a way that crosses party and gender lines.”
Michelle Obama has also “cultivated [an] image as her husband’s partner, yet somehow not dirtied by his political wars.”
Eric Schultz, White House Deputy Press Secretary, has even commented on her well-liked status by saying, “I can’t think of a bolder way for Donald Trump to lose even more standing than he already has than by engaging the first lady of the United States.”
