The Daily Beast is reporting that unnamed sources who worked on that season of his show are claiming the businessman called her “retarded” numerous times.
According to the media outlet, one of them said that Trump would often jot down notes while in the boardroom and that a staffer once found a piece of paper where he wrote, “Marlee, is she retarded??”
Another insider is said to have compared his treatment of her to his alleged ridicule of a disabled journalist, stating, “[Trump] would make fun of her voice. It actually sounded a lot like what he did [to] the New York Times guy.”
That source is then quoted as saying, “Like, to make it seem like she was mentally not there? [It] sounded like he got a real kick out of it. It was really upsetting.”
Matlin was reportedly present during one instance when Trump referred negatively to her disability, and a staff member said, “...she stood up for herself.”
