A recent poll conducted by Y2 Analytics, a firm based in Salt Lake City, shows Clinton and Trump tied among likely voters at 26%.
Not far behind them at 22% is Evan McMullin, an area independent whose name is unlikely to appear on many ballots outside of Utah’s borders.
The rather shocking change in party support among the state’s voters is attributed to a number of possible factors.
One, of course, is the recently emerged video showing Trump discussing women in a predatory and sexually aggressive manner.
Another, as suggested in June by Utah Senator Mike Lee, is the GOP candidate’s stance on Muslims, notes Politico.
Though Mormons have not been targeted by Trump, Lee noted his state, “…consists of people who are members of a religious minority church...people who were ordered [to be] exterminated by the governor of Missouri in 1838. And, statements like that make them nervous.”
