On Saturday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida posted about a bald eagle flying in front of a car and getting caught in its grill.
The incident quickly took on a deeper meaning for some observers, including one Esquire writer who points out in an article, “It's pretty difficult to think of any sort of metaphor that describes America's current political situation right now, but this bald eagle getting trapped in a car grill is pretty damn close.”
Gizmodo has expressed a similar sentiment, stating in a piece that the lodged eagle “...has become a much more appropriate symbol for America in 2016.”
Fortunately, the sheriff’s office reports that “the bird is alive and was turned over to the B.E.A.K.S. Wildlife Sanctuary.”
Rescuers there report that the adult male eagle appears to be doing well with no signs of serious injuries.
The event reportedly occurred in the wake of Hurricane Matthew which is why the team has named him Matthew.
