Middlesbrough footballer shares taxi with travelling fans

An amusing video has emerged showing Dutch footballer Marten De Roon sharing a taxi with a group of travelling Middlesbrough fans after he missed his train home following the team's match on Saturday.

The footage, taken from inside the cab, shows the Boro midfielder grinning sheepishly while fan Lloyd Cooper and friends chant his name at him.

The player had reportedly stayed behind in London following Middlesbrough's away game against West Ham to undergo doping tests.

According to Cooper, De Roon was spotted waiting for a taxi by himself, when he was offered a lift.

“He would have been there hours in that queue so we got in our minibus a bit further up and as a bit of crack I told the driver to drive towards him and I’ll ask him to get in," he wrote.

“He jumped in and we took him to Hurworth for his car," he continued.

He added that De Roon was a "“really nice bloke, down to earth. Very appreciative. Gave the taxi driver £60 and asked for a photo on his phone!"
