All three women were killed inside a department store in the Cascade Mall. At least two other people were injured. One is in a critical condition.

Police believe a lone gunman, described as an Hispanic male, was involved. Local people in Burlington, in Washington State near the Canadian border, are being advised to stay indoors while he remains on the run.

The attack comes less than a week after a man stabbed nine people at a mall in Minnesota before being shot dead in what is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism.

US media is reporting that Washington State Patrol have said there is no indication of terrorism in the Burlington shooting.
