Started Chicken Run & Hurricane Preperations

After days and days of clearing trees work finally begins on the chicken run. The hurricane was on its way so preparations were made for the worst case scenario. We found some free stuff and did some Wheeling and Dealing.
Someone sent us a spare chain for the Husqvarna chain saw which I now love very much. Thank you!!!
Melanie has been alternating between helping outside on projects as needed and cooking inside the off grid tiny house on wheels. Actually she has been using her outdoor kitchen all summer this year.
Melanie makes everything from scratch and today she is making pizza. We love Melanie's homemade pizza.
I am working on the chicken run which will give the birds lots of room to free range and keep them contained and out of the garden. Eventually the chicken run will be extended around the entire perimeter of the meadow. This will allow the birds to have all the free food they need in summer plus they will keep the ticks down.
Work is hard and slow going though with pounding in T posts for the chicken wire due to so many boulders just under the surface of the land. The glaciers deposited rocks and boulders all over this land, making driving posts near impossible without heavy earth moving equipment.
Small backhoe operators have turned me down when I ask about digging here. All of them.
We went out for a craigslist haul and came back with a truck load of tools and equipment that we can use on the off grid homestead. We got a mess of moving blankets which are always good to have around. And we got a lot of good old fashioned tools.
Any scrap metal we got goes to my friend who we trade and deal with all the time.
He was over today and wanted our boat so we are going to his place to see what he has to trade for it.
While there we got four 6 gallon containers of drinking water for our off grid home.
Our friend took the boat and gave us some items in trade. We got a bucket full of roofing nails for our roofing nail gun which we can use around here. We also got a truck tool box which he was going to take in for scrap metal. That would have been a shame. And we got a tool belt and staples. We use tons of staples around here when building chicken coops and fencing.
Chris has been working out by the fire wood shed sorting out some scrap lumber. He is cutting it all up and stacking it for use as kindling this winter.
We will not suffer for heat in the off grid tiny home this winter.
Our work day ended a bit earlier when we got multiple calls and messages about a hurricane that was on its way up the coast. So we tightened things down and put things away in case we got the bad winds associated with a hurricane. We prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
