What we know so far about suspected New York, New Jersey bomber Ahmad Khan Rahami

LINDEN, NEW JERSEY — Details are emerging about Ahmad Khan Rahami, the bombing suspect who was captured in Linden, New Jersey following a shootout on Monday morning.

CNN reports that Rahami was born in Afghanistan and came to America in January of 1995 to seek asylum. He was became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2011. That same year, he visited Kandahar, Afghanistan and Quetta, Pakistan, both considered Taliban strongholds. While there, he married a Pakistani woman.

He again traveled to Quetta in April 2013, staying there nearly a year before returning to American soil in March of 2014.

Both times, Rahami was questioned by immigration officials upon returning to the United States. He claimed to have been visiting relatives who were Afghan refugees, and managed to avoid suspicion .

In 2014, he was arrested after his sister accused him of trying to stab her. Rahami spent two months in jail before she recanted her allegations.

According to ABC, his last known address was in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He lived with family in an apartment above their restaurant, First American Fried Chicken, where he frequently helped out.
