Device Blows Up in Elizabeth as Disposal Robots Approach

An explosive device detonated in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the early hours of Monday, September 19. The package, including several explosives, was discovered in a dumpster by two men, according to local mayor Chris Bollwage. The men moved the device under a nearby railway bridge and called the police. The Elizabeth police called the Union County Bomb Squad, which attended the scene, along with FBI.As they were trying to disarm the device, it exploded. The explosion came shortly after a separate device injured 29 people as it detonated in Chelsea, New York. Police have not linked the two events as yet.
