Carpet Pythons Battle It Out During Mating Season

Becky Beale came home to the incredible sight of two large carpet pythons fighting on the roof of her house in New South Wales, on September 1. According to snake catchers, September is the start of breeding season for the pythons and towards the end of the year similar fights will become a common occurrence. The two pythons, which Beale estimated to be about 1.5 metres and 2 metres long, duked it out while hanging off the gutter of her roof before falling onto her second story deck below.
“My first thoughts were ‘No! What the hell are they doing?’, it was a beautiful day and I didn’t want to have to lock my son and dog inside,” she said.
Beale and her 15-month-old son watched the epic fight for over an hour. She said the longer python emerged victorious while the loser slithered back into the bushes. Credit: Becky Beale
