Topless women remind Russian drivers to slow down in road safety campaign - TomoNews

SEVERNY ISLAND, RUSSIA — A Russian village has come up with a rather interesting way to get drivers to slow down at a crosswalk — have topless women stand around it.

Women dressed in thigh-high boots and not much else have been called up for duty in Severny, a village on an island in the Arctic Ocean, in a bid to get drivers to reduce speeds at a pedestrian crossing prone to accidents, according to the Mirror.

The idea was first tried in Nizhny Novgorod back in 2013, but has been brought back as part of a way to reduce the 30,000 deaths a year that occur in Russia due to traffic accidents, the Sun reported.

According to road safety campaign Avtodrizhenia, a majority of the speeders are men, and surprisingly they happened to slow down when they drove by the bare-chested brunettes.

The women held speed limit signs of 60 and 40 kilometers per hour in video posted by Ruptly.

Knock on wood, there have been no reports of accidents reported yet due to distracted drivers.

Older citizens who use the crosswalk have even given a thumbs up to the controversial campaign.
