Hurricane Hermine hits Florida, weakens into tropical storm
  • 8 years ago
Hurricane Hermine made landfall early Friday in Florida with a furious mix of rain, whistling winds and surging waves -- then weakened into a tropical storm as it wobbled toward Georgia.
Hermine had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph when it made landfall, prompting the National Hurricane Center in Miami to warn Floridians to expect "life-threatening surge and flooding rains."
Across Florida, there were reports of downed power lines and debris.
Even with the storm moving into Georgia, officials warned people to remain home due to the dangers posed on the streets.
