Colin Kaepernick, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, is expected to once again remain seated during the national anthem on Thursday.

NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick will reportedly repeat his controversial move to remain seated during the national anthem when his 49ers play the Chargers tonight.

The Washington Post is reporting that the professional football player told the media on Sunday that “When there’s significant change and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent in this country, I’ll stand.”

His protest centers largely around racial discrimination. As he had explained to NFL Media, he is “not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.

The public has had a strong and varied response to his action last week, but tonight’s game could draw even more attention because it is the 28th-annual Salute to the Military and numerous service people are expected to attend.

Kaepernick has said in advance that he has “great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country.”

However, he plans to continue his sit out because “People are dying in vain.”
