Notes: The Beavers are looking to overcome a disappointing 2-10 season in 2015 under first year head coach Gary Anderson who left Wisconsin to take over this program. They sat near the bottom of college football in most major offensive and defensive categories. They were 115th in scoring offense producing 19 points a game and were 114th in scoring defense as opponents put up 37 a game. The team will start junior Darrell Garretson under center. Garretson is a transfer from Utah St.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers finished at 5-7 during their regular season. They played in their fourth straight bowl game which resulted in a 27-14 victory to Central Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl. Golden Gophers were one of the few teams who qualified for a bowl game with a losing record. Head coach Jerry Kill resigned due to medial problems so Tracy Claeys will enter his first full season. This team had issues scoring as they produced 22.5 points per game which was 106th in the nation. Defensively Minnesota was solid ranking 24th best. They were great in pass defense as opponents threw for only 179 yards per game against them good for 11th in all of college football. Senior Mitch Ledner returns as the team’s starting quarterback. He is a weak armed quarterback who completed 59% of his passes in 2015 with 14 touchdowns and 11 picks.
