Jail fight: Inmate saves corrections officer from getting his butt whooped - TomoNews

STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA — Footage has surfaced of an inmate coming to the rescue of a corrections officers who was being attacked by another inmate in the booking area of the Payne County jail.

Surveillance video shows inmate Tashka Robert Frank Meret, 24, walk out of the holding cell, and then suddenly attacking the jailer.

Meret throws several punches and then picks the jailer up, before throwing him to the ground.

The corrections officer then gets back on his feet and him and Meret square off.

That’s when a second inmate, Robert Charles Hammock, who was sitting on a bench waiting to be processed, rushed over to lend a helping hand, according to deputies.

Hammock comes up behind Meret and restrains him. Then he and the jailer take Meret down to the ground just as other corrections officers come over to help.

According to a KOCO 5 report, Maret had been initially booked on public intoxication and petty larceny.

He now is looking at a charge of assault on a police officer, which carries a sentence of up to five years if convicted.
