Kachin fighting intensifies

Kachin state in Northern Burma has been the scene of bloody
fighting between ethnic minority rebels and the Burmese army since a
17-year ceasefire broke down in June two years ago.

In the last few weeks the conflict has intensified.

The Burmese army has admitted to using fighter jets to attack the
rebels but maintains that it is only acting in self-defence.

The Kachin, who are fighting for greater autonomy and ethnic rights in
Burma, say the army is advancing on their headquarters.
