JONESBORO, ARKANSAS — A prisoner tried to escape after being thrown from a squad car that was involved in an accident last Friday.

Officer Justin Thompson was injured around 5:22 p.m. when his patrol car overturned while he was transporting a prisoner to jail, according to a Jonesboro Police Department news release.

The prisoner, 19-year-old Logan Younger, fled the accident scene but was captured shortly after, according to KAIT.

Facebook user Kelly Gregson Taylor was able to catch some of the foot pursuit of Logan after the crash on her cellphone.

Officer Thompson was trapped in his squad car and had to be extricated by the Jonesboro Fire Department, according to KAIT.

Thompson was later transported to a Memphis hospital, where he underwent tests to determine the extent of his injuries.

Younger was taken to St. Bernard’s Medical Center for treatment and released.

He was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center and is being held on escape, public intoxication, fleeing on foot and minor in possession charges.

Younger was arrested earlier by Thompson for being drunk at the Mall at Turtle Creek.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
