Burma's culture is heavily influenced by Buddhism, but in recent years, some traditional celebrations have become commercialized. Over the Buddhist New Year the symbolic sprinkling of water to cleanse sins has been replaced by hoses and pumping music and many young people use the holiday as a chance to experiment with new styles.
