DVB Debate Report: 'Nationalism is exploited for political gain'

Participants in this week’s DVB Debate ‘What is the impact of new Nationalism?’ (the first segment ever to be hosted in Mandalay) are Tin Aye Kyu of the Thakhin Kodawhmine Network for Peace, the National League for Democracy’s Kyaw Swe, writer Nyi Say Min and high court attorney.

All speakers in the debate agreed that nationalism is being exploited for political gain. Tin Maung Win insisted that people of Burma must uphold a nationalism spirit as Burma is geographically situated between two very powerful nations China and India.

Tin Aye Kyu in response to the moderator’s question what is the most crucial in effort to bring about reforms in Burma, gave a rather short answer; constitution reforms. But Kyaw Swe did not agree, and raised that the charter reforms are only a minor component in bringing about political reforms.
