Brazilian police say U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte lied about being robbed at gunpoint in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazilian Police say that U.S. gold medalist Ryan Lochte lied in his account of an incident at a Rio De Janeiro gas station after a night of partying on Sunday.
Authorities say Lochte, 32, along with fellow U.S. American swimmers Jack Conger, Gunnar Bentz and James Feigen, who are in their 20s, were not robbed there as the gold medallist originally claimed following the Sunday incident.
According to Reuters, police allege they actually vandalized the gas station’s bathroom.
An armed security guard brandished a gun at them after they smashed the bathroom up.
Lochte claimed earlier this week that they were robbed of $400 at gunpoint, Reuters reported.
According to the New York Times, Rio police got a lead on the case from a taxi driver who had transported two women from the same party the swimmers were at that night.
Those women were reportedly discussing romantic encounters with the swimmers.
