Notes: After a poor start to the season the Lions played better football in the second half of the season. They have a notable loss as wide receiver Calvin Johnson has retired. Matthew Stafford returns under center and could see a series or two in the opener. Detroit has experience in the backup position as Dan Orlovsky enters his 12th season in the league and his sixth with the Lions. He saw mop up duty last season in three games completing 22 of 40 passes for 201 yards with a touchdown and one pick. Orlovsky has started 12 games in his NFL career. Rookie Jake Rudock out of Michigan is also on the Lions roster.

Pittsburgh will be looking to improve on their 30th ranked pass defense from last season. Starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will see limited action in the opener. Landry Jones is the backup as he enters his third season with the team. Jones started two games for the Steelers last year and hit on 32 of 55 passes for 513 yards with three touchdowns and four picks. Veteran Bruce Gradkowski is battling for a roster spot and has 10 years of service in the league. Dustin Vaughan out of West Texas A&M is in his third training camp and battling for a roster spot.
