A 24-year-old man has been arrested in the hot car-related deaths of his 15-month-old twin daughters.
The incident occurred on Thursday in the town of Carrollton, Georgia; outside temperatures reached at least 90 degrees that day.
When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they reportedly saw the father, Asa North, trying to cool the girls in a kiddie pool, notes CBS News.
According to CNN, "frantic neighbors tried to lower their [toddler's] body temperatures using ice packs."
Despite their efforts, the girls--identified as Ariel Roxanne North and Alaynah Maryanne North-- remained unresponsive and were later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
ABC News reports that "the deaths are being investigated as a hot car death...although the official cause of death remains to be determined."
The father is facing two counts each of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, notes CNN.
The mother was reportedly visiting a family member in Atlanta at the time but has since returned to Carrollton.
