This Stray Dog Is Melting Hearts After Accompanying Marathon Runner In Grueling Gobi Desert Race

An extreme athlete from Edinburgh, Scotland is in the process of adopting the stray 18-month-old dog who ran beside him across the Gobi Desert.

Dion Leonard, an extreme athlete from Edinburgh, Scotland, was a top finisher in a grueling 155-mile marathon across the Gobi Desert, but that’s not the part of the adventure he appears to be most excited about.
The Daily Mail reports that along the way, he became friends with an 18-month old stray dog who ran alongside him for much of the race.
Now, Leonard is working to adopt the little one, which will require she be transported from China to Scotland, notes the BBC.
The process involves lengthy quarantines and an expense of over $6,500, but thanks to a wildly successful crowdfunding campaign, the money is covered.
On the funding page, Leonard writes that Gobi, the name he’s given to the dog, showed up early in the race and began to follow the crowd.
Before long, she gravitated towards him, and the two became inseparable, sharing food, water, and resting quarters.
It could be up to 6 months before Gobi is free to take up residence in her new home, but Leonard is hopeful she’ll be at his side by Christmas.
