Turkey: Presidential guard to be disbanded

After nearly 300 of its members were detained following last week's failed coup Turkey is disbanding its elite presidential guard unit."We decided that there won't be a guards unit in this compound anymore," Prime Minister declared to Anadolu state news agency. A state of emergency was declared on Wednesday, allowing the president and cabinet to bypassparliament to draft new laws and to restrict or suspend rights and freedoms.
Since the attempted coup on July 15,Turkey seized various many individual suspected to be linked with the coup, including journalists, judges and professors.
