Explosion as missile lands near civilians during Turkish coup attempt

Shocking footage of what appears to be a jet fighter dropping a bomb close to civilians in Ankara, Turkey during the attempted coup.

The video, filmed on Saturday morning by a history professor at Yildirim Beyazit University who says he went down to the presidential residence to "help to protect it with other people", shows a crowd gathered on a road with smoke rising in the distance from an earlier bombing.

Then, a jet aircraft can be heard passing overhead and a large explosion occurs close to where people are gathered, killing at least seven according to the filmer.

"The people closed the road with the help of their cars and prevented the military vehicles to pass ... two helicopters started to fire to frighten the people," he wrote online.

"Nearly 20 policemen who were with us reacted to the fire."

"At this time, the military centre which was close to the President Residence, was surrounded by people ... [an] F-16 threw a bomb a little bit far away from the people, [and] when people started to run away from this bomb, another F-16 threw another bomb to the place where people were," he continued.

"The people were panicking; they did not understand why they were being bombed by their own army.

"After this second bomb I saw seven dead people on the ground.

"People were crying and asking each other what kind of Turks these army people are.

"The bombs that they were throwing were their last activities perhaps because after the bombing hundreds of policemen came and protected the people."
