Arizona has Measles Outbreak
The largest current outbreak of measles in the United States is happening in Arizona and health officials say that the outbreak was fueled by workers at a federal immigration detention center who turned down vaccine. Since last May, authorities have confirmed 22 measles cases in Arizona -- which all stem from the Eloy detention center, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility. It has also been difficult to convince employees of the facility to get vaccinated, so once infected they're bring it back to their families and the public. The Arizona Health Department director, Cara Christ, said, “Once they understand how important it is and the outcomes it can have on the community, they tend to cooperate."
