Independence Day weekend is typically a busy travel time, and AAA projects this year will be the busiest ever recorded.
The organization estimates that between June 30 and July 4, 43 million people will take to the roads, skies, waters, and railways.
36 million of them will drive, an astounding number likely spurred by the recent dip in gas prices.
The national average for a gallon of gasoline is roughly $2.30, which is more than a 45-cent decrease from this time last year.
AAA anticipates the prices at the pumps over the holiday weekend will end up being the lowest Independence Day rates since 2005.
3.3 million people are expected to travel by plane, a 2.2% increase from 2015.
Another large uptick in 4th of July travel is the number of people going on cruises.
AAA reports that its cabin bookings are 35% higher this year than last.
