Stonewall Inn to officially be recognized as national monument for gay rights

After a weekend of gay pride celebrations in NYC, the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village will officially be recognized as a national monument Monday with a ceremony The dedication follows President Obama’s creation of the first national monument to gay rights on Friday Designating the site of the Stonewall riots in Manhattan where the modern gay rights movement started nearly five decades ago New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined gay rights groups in praising the new monument, along with New York lawmakers who had long advocated for a national designation
