Aetna-Humana Deal Requiring Department of Justice Intervention

According to a source in California, on Thursday Dave Jones, California Insurance Commissioner, opening spoke in opposition of health insurer Aetna Inc.'s $34 billion acquisition of Humana Inc. Jones has no authority to block the deal, but spoke up to urge national antitrust regulators and the Department of Justice to act. Jones argued that the acquisition would not only be anti-competitive in California, but also nationwide and that it would produce higher prices for insurance for Americans .
