Resolution calls for discontinuing the display of the Confederate flag

The Southern Baptist Convention, once founded as a pro-slavery denomination that aligned itself with the Confederacy, voted Tuesday to condemn the Civil War battle flag of the South.
After the vote, the final resolution said: “We call our brothers and sisters in Christ to discontinue the display of the Confederate battle flag as a sign of solidarity of the whole Body of Christ, including our African-American brothers and sisters.”
The denomination’s resolutions are not binding upon churches, but church insiders said nearly every Southern Baptist church abides by them.
The Baptists considered the resolution almost a year after nine people were murdered at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., by an alleged killer who posed for photos with the rebel flag, following the shootings the flag was taken down.
