Astronomers Find Largest Known Planet To Orbit Two Suns

As anyone who is familiar with Tatooine, the home of Luke Skywalker, knows some planets orbit two stars.
Astronomers hailing from San Diego State University and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center recently discovered the largest planet known to date to be in such a situation.
Called Kepler-1647b, the orb exists about 3,700 light years from Earth and is roughly the same age as our planet.
However, in terms of size and composition, it has more in common with Jupiter.
As the planet’s orbit is uncharacteristically far from the star duo, it is within the habitable range, but as it is a gas giant, life and the ingredients required to make it are unlikely present.
Should Kepler-1647b have sizeable moons, they may be capable hosts.
The planet was first detected back in 2011, but confirming its status took quite some time.
The delay was, in part, due to its rather long orbit, which takes a bit over 3 years to complete.
